Fran Kirby prolonged her destructive run of form on Sunday, netting five of Reading’s seven goals against London Bees.
A commanding win for the Royals away from home, saw them soar to the top of the table, with Kirby already celebrating a staggering nine goals in just two league appearances.
Having previously bagged all four in an opening day 4-2 victory at Yeovil Town, she once again proved her worth – before earning a call-up to the England international squad soon after.
The in-form Reading striker beat Sophie Harris four times within just half an hour, with captain Lauren Bruton adding a fifth shortly before the break.
A cool finish saw Kirby open the scoring inside ten minutes, before doubling the lead just nine minutes later – finding the net after an intelligent ball from Emma Follis.
Blitzing through the Bees defence regularly with ease, Kirby was having an afternoon to remember.
However, Bonnie Horwood also opted to make her way onto the scoresheet, before Kirby stepped up once again to complete the scoring with 13 minutes remaining on the clock.
“I couldn’t have got off to a better start this season,” she celebrated following a phenomenal team and individual performance. “Last season I managed to win the golden boot and that is the ambition again.
“I just want to maintain this form now and keep scoring goals. We came to win the game but knew it would be tough because the Bees have recruited well.
“We didn’t come here expecting to win as well as we did. Thankfully we just managed to capitalise on a few of their mistakes, we have some great players and thankfully I am there to score those goals by getting in the box.”
