FA CUP QF PREVIEW: Notts County vs. Aston Villa

Notts County will host Aston Villa on Sunday, as they set their sights on a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

A victory for either side would see them just 90 minutes away from the final which will be played at Wembley Stadium for the first time in the competition’s history.

The Villains will now face their toughest task to date in order to progress, travelling to Notts who sit a division above them.

Villa beat fellow second division side Yeovil Town, before inflicting defeat on Sheffield Ladies in the fifth round to set up a quarter final tie against the WSL1 outfit.

County joined the competition during the fifth round, and saw off Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur with an impressive four goals.

The hosts will also be spurred by the form of the Villa who have taken just three points from an opening nine – conceding five to Doncaster Rovers Belles in their last outing.

However, Notts County have only taken one point from their opening two games – conceding late in both fixtures.

The Pies could also have some tiring legs in their side, with Alex Greenwood and Leanne Crichton completing the full 90 minutes on international duty during midweek.

Laura Bassett, Fiona O’Sullivan and Ellen White also made appearances off the bench against China.

Despite the differing divisions, the last meeting between these two sides was only last season, when County ran out clear 5-0 winners at Meadow Lane in the Continental Cup.
