Sometimes results do not tell the full story and this can certainly be applied to the early season form of Oxford United and Yeovil Town, who meet at Northcourt Road on Sunday.
Hosts, Oxford began the season well by grinding out a 1-0 win over Watford but more recently lost 3-0 away at Durham, after their inability to convert chances cost them, despite controlling the majority of the possession.
Meanwhile Yeovil’s fixture list saw them face arguably the WSL2’s two strongest sides in Reading and Doncaster Rovers Belles.
Fran Kirby proved just too good in the Reading attack, scoring all four in a 4-2 win, before they were then unfortunate when losing 2-1 in Doncaster.
United boss Les Taylor acknowledged this, saying: “They’ve played two teams going for promotion in Reading and Doncaster and from the reports we’ve had they were very unlucky to lose to Doncaster, so it’s going to be a tough test.”
The two sides met three times last year in all competitions with Yeovil winning all three. Now boosted by experienced off-season signing Corinne Yorston, the Glover Girls will be hopeful of making it four in a row.
But despite the perfect record, Yorston is keen to guard against complacency.
“I’ve not played against Oxford competitively, but you always prepare the same. If we didn’t then you would be setting yourself up to fail if you take any team lightly.”
She added: “Even though we have lost two games the atmosphere is great and the girls are really pushing, so you want to experience that winning feeling.”
