Manchester City’s Toni Duggan has apologised for posting a selfie on Instagram of her, teammate Isobel Christiansen and Everton Ladies’ Michelle Hinnigan, with Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal.
Duggan yesterday made a public apology on her Facebook page which said:
“I would like to apologise to all MCFC fans for the error of judgement I made last night.
“I now appreciate the significance of my actions and can assure everyone connected with Manchester City that I am proud to represent the Club and wear the shirt.”
The picture has since been deleted from Duggan’s Instagram account.
The 23-year-old was out celebrating with team-mates after scoring in City’s 3-1 win over Birmingham in the FA Women’s Cup quarter-finals on Sunday when she bumped in to the United manager who’s side beat City’s men’s team 4-2 in the Premier League earlier the same day.
Many City fans took to twitter to blast Duggan with some calling for the club to sack the striker.
One fan said “I suspect that your ill-timed stunt will put off lots of fans considering buying a City ladies’ season ticket. Well done.”
Another added: “Don’t know if you should be allowed to wear a City shirt after that little picture.”
With a third fan commenting: “Disgraceful antics. You should be utterly ashamed of yourself.”
