Promotion hopefuls Doncaster and Everton go head to head

Doncaster Rovers Belles travel to Everton on Saturday, hoping to keep their 100% league record intact, while potentially climbing to the top of the WSL2 table.

Having recorded a 5-0 victory over Aston Villa in their last outing, the visitors will be keen to continue their entertaining form when facing the tough test of the Toffees. After a week off last weekend, there could be some rustiness to shake off for the Belles, who have conceded just once in their opening three fixtures.

The hosts, meanwhile, sit one position below courtesy of a single win and two draws, while also remaining unbeaten in the league. Andy Spence’s side enjoyed a mixed season in 2014, with an impressive FA Cup run overshadowed by a lacklustre league campaign which saw them relegated from the top tier.

Draws against Millwall and London Bees in recent times have left supporters somewhat unimpressed, but Saturday could prove an opportunity to impose their dominance and power on the league table against fellow promotion candidates.

Despite their differences in leagues last season, the two sides did meet in the Continental Cup quarter-final, where Everton took the lead through Simone Magill, and Fern Whelan doubled their lead shortly before the break. Sue Smith then converted a penalty for the Belles to reduce the deficit, but Brooke Chaplen’s goal moments later secured a comfortable 3-1 victory for the Merseyside outfit.

With both teams coming through their last games without an extensive injury list, both Spence and Glen Harris will have considerable freedom in their team selections at the Select Security Stadium.
