Bees hoping to make Hive fortress against Durham

London Bees will be hoping to earn their first win of the season when they host Durham at The Hive on Sunday.

The Bees will be confident after a very credible draw away to promotion chasers Everton, although Julian Broomes’ team let a two-goal lead slip.

“We were in a very commanding position at half-time and we should have gone on to win the game really,” Broomes said.

“We would rather have taken all three, but one point is better than no points and overall I feel that a draw was a fair result.”

The Everton result came after a 0-7 thrashing at the hands of Reading and a goalless draw at Millwall.

As for Durham, they have had a mixed start to the season. They laboured to a 0-3 defeat in Doncaster before winning by the same scoreline against Oxford.

Most recently the Wildcats lost out to Millwall Lionesses 2-3 at New Ferens Park.

Durham defender Sarah Wilson refuses to dwell on the recent defeat.

“It was especially disappointing to lose to Millwall after a massive victory over Oxford but we can’t get hung up on that result and we’ve got a lot of decent games coming up,” she said.

Jess Havelock has been included in the travelling squad going down to the capital and may feature for the first time since signing from neighbours Newcastle United WFC.

The Hive was a happy-hunting ground for the girls from the North East last season. Their 1-0 victory back in May 2014 kick-started their season, having lost a staggering 8 matches in a row in all competitions before that.
