Watford earn first points of season at home to Millwall

A goalless encounter at Berkhamsted saw Watford claim their first point of the season against Dan Mlinar’s Millwall Lionesses.

The unbeaten Londoners came closest through Megan Goss in the first half, but neither side could take all three points in Sunday’s WSL 2 encounter.

Watford’s Emily Heaslip, acting as captain in the absence of Megan Wynne, saw her powerful effort spilled by Millwall keeper Sarah Quantrill at the feet of Kim Farrow. However, the number one did well to retain herself and stop the rebounded attempt.

Packed with confidence after their first half performances, the hosts pushed for an opener after the break and nearly found it courtesy of Kate Natkiel. But, following Dawn Mallet’s whipped cross, the midfielder’s strike was well blocked by Lionesses’ captain Dionne Lennon.

Natkiel enjoyed one more chance for Watford in an uneventful 90 minutes, but Quantrill was on hand again to parry her curling strike from outside the box, ensuring the points were shared.

Watford remain bottom of the league after four matches whereas Millwall failed to capitalise on other results elsewhere in their race for promotion.
