Ji So-Yun named PFA Player of the Year

Chelsea’s South Korean midfielder Ji So-Yun was last night named the PFA Women’s Player of the Year in a good night for the London club as Eden Hazard picked up the men’s award.

The three-time Korean Football of the Year joined the Blues in November 2013 and became the first woman from her country to play in the FA WSL.

In her first 19 appearances with the club she scored 9 goals and already has 2 in her first 6 games in all competitions this season.

She said of her award: “It is a big honour to receive this award – I want to thank Chelsea Ladies’ players and staff.

“I’m really, really happy to be nominated alongside Hazard, I’m really proud of myself and Chelsea, and the Chelsea Ladies team.”

Arsenal teenager Leah Williamson, who signed a senior contract with her childhood club a few days after her 18th birthday this year, claimed the PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year award after helping England’s Under 19s qualify for this summer’s European Championships in Israel.

The Gunners also saw two players – Emma Mitchell and Casey Stoney – selected for the WSL Team of the Year, alongside Manchester City full-back Lucy Bronze and former Notts County centre-half Rachel Corsie.

Two Birmingham City players also feature – Karen Carney and Jo Potter – who are joined in midfield by England international Jill Scott and the night’s big winner So-Yun.

So-Yun’s teammate Eni Aluko partners Nikita Parris up front and the team was completed by Notts County goalkeeper Carly Telford.
