Yeovil Town Ladies recorded their third consecutive victory in the league by beating London Bees 4-0 at Sherbourne Town on Sunday.
The win moves the Lady Glovers up to 3rd and within reach of a promotion spot for the first time this season.
Annie Heatherson scored twice in three second half minutes as the home side pulled clear of their London opponents, after Corinne Yorston’s first half penalty had given Yeovil an early lead and substitute Alys Hinchcliffe rounded off the scoring late on.
After just 17 minutes Heatherson was adjudged to have been fouled in the area by Bees keeper Imogen Riches and Yorston stepped up to convert the spot kick and score her 4th goal since signing for the Somerset side.
Just before half time Yeovil were awarded another penalty, but this time Riches guessed correctly and produced a great save to deny Yorston a second.
London Bees came into the game low on confidence after a 4-0 drubbing at home to Durham Women last weekend, but started the second half strongly and even threatened an equaliser, when Gemma Fraser tested the hands of Charlotte Haynes, before Cheryl Williams then went close with a low shot that had the keeper stretching.
Despite the final scoreline Bees’ boss Julian Broomes was keen to focus on the positives from the match.
“The girls passed the ball really well today and if I’m honest with you the score-line didn’t reflect the way we played,” he said.
“Their work ethic was outstanding today for the 90 minutes, what we talked about today is people being responsible for their roles and working hard, as long as one person worked hard everybody else worked and we fed off that, and it was evident.”
However any hard work was quickly undone as Heatherson went on the offensive in the second half with a fantastic solo effort from outside the box on 65 minutes coming after the in-form striker had been set up by substitute Hinchcliffe.
Heatherson spoke of her delight at scoring. “It was a great performance and a good score-line for us. A lot of people asked me last week ‘when am I going to score?’, but I think when you are winning, you don’t need to score, as long as you are contributing and working hard that is the main thing”.
Hinchcliffe then got herself on the score sheet in the closing exchanges to round off another impressive victory for Jamie Sherwood’s side, to make it three in a row.
The Lady Glover’s progress will now be tested as they start a run of 3 consecutive away matches beginning with Millwall.
The fixture list also sees the Bees play away in their next three and they have the toughest test against league leaders Doncaster Rovers Belles up next.
