Unbeaten Belles entertain Bees before World Cup break

Doncaster Rovers Belles currently sit unbeaten at the top of the WSL 2 table and will want to continue their excellent start to the season against London Bees.

After promotion rivals Reading dropped points against Yeovil Town and Oxford United, The Belles opened up a 3 point cushion with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Aston Villa last time out. Their London opponents, on the other hand, come in to the fixture off the back of two 4-0 thrashings.

The Bees will however take confidence from their form earlier in the season where they picked up points at the well-established Everton and Millwall Lionesses – something Belles manager Glen Harris is keen to remind his players.

“This game will mark a third of our league season and hopefully we can finish it unbeaten and at the top of the league. However, it is clear from the games so far that all teams are capable of taking points off one another,” said Harris.

“Our opponents have done very well on the road taking points from Millwall and Everton, so we need to be fully focused and professional in our approach to the game.”

Harris will have a full-strength squad to select from for this home tie, with Lauren Cresswell returning from an injury which saw her miss the win over Villa.

The home side have only conceded 3 goals in their opening five matches and will be hoping to keep another clean sheet against London Bees who have only managed to score twice so far in the 2015 campaign.

The last time these two sides met was in the FA Women’s Cup third round in January where the game finished 3-0 in favour of the Belles, despite it being goalless at the break. All three of Rovers current top goalscorers netted in the game, including Courtney Sweetman-Kirk who will be looking to add a sixth goal of the season to her tally on Saturday.
