Chelsea Ladies are currently top of the league and undefeated in the WSL having won four of their first five games before being held at home to Arsenal last time out. This weekend they take on Manchester City Women who they defeated on Monday evening in the semi final of the FA Women’s Cup.
City who are sixth in the league, and haven’t won in the WSL since the beginning of April, have only scored two goals so far this season. And with the Blues only conceding one, this looks to be a tight affair.
Chelsea midfielder Katie Chapman told the WSL website: “It’s always a tough game against City but I think it’s going to be different in the league than it was in the cup game.
“League games are always going to be difficult, the league this year is very close and you can see that in how close the results have been.
“I think we can take what we learned from playing City in the cup, reflect on that, look at things we can do better and take the positives into the league game.”
This fixture is the last before the international break where many players from both teams will be hopeful of heading across the Atlantic for the Women’s World Cup.
Manchester City captain Steph Houghton is one of those players and said ahead of her side’s tough fixture, “Sunday’s game is the last one before the World Cup. It’s vitally important we get the crowd down at home games, especially because we’re about to have a big break.
“Hopefully, the fans can give us a good send off because the next few months are going to be very exciting.”
