Millwall come from behind twice to earn draw with Yeovil

Millwall Lionesses came from behind twice to earn a draw against third-placed Yeovil Town to keep their unbeaten run intact.

Lionesses midfielder Naomi Cole converted her second-half penalty which proved a vital goal for the London club, keeping them in touch with the top teams in the WSL 2 and in 5th place.

Natasha Knapman had put the Glovers ahead on the 21st minute heading into an empty net, after Annie Heatherson nodded back across goal following a Yeovil corner. Before Millwall got their just rewards having played the better in the first half and levelled the scores on 35 minutes through Chelsea loanee Rosella Ayane.

The Lionesses could have edged in front just before the break, but for the combination of post and keeper Yeovil keeper Charlotte Haynes whose fingertips kept the ball from crossing the line.

However it was the visitors who then retook the lead when Corinne Yorston scored from the spot after being fouled by Grace Fisk just five minutes into the second half.

The resilient Lionesses then fought back again, and Cole’s penalty was enough to give both teams a point.

Yeovil manager Jamie Sherwood was pleased with the point that his team earned but naturally was dissatisfied it wasn’t all three.

“Of course we’re disappointed, but we’re more disappointed if we’re not creating chances,” he said after the game.

“Today unfortunately the keeper’s done well. We said before the game how good Sarah [Quantrill] is, she’s a quality keeper and she’s done what goalkeepers are paid to do.

“I thought it was a good battle.”
