Everton and Yeovil battle for crucial promotion points

As the top tier of women’s football breaks for the World Cup the WSL 2 is just hotting up. This weekend sees first vs. second and third vs. fourth, as Reading travel to Doncaster Rovers Belles and Everton host Yeovil Town.

At the end of the season, two teams will move up to the WSL 1 and third-placed Yeovil Town are currently unbeaten in four games and only three points adrift of the promotion places.

Everton on the other hand are hoping to bounce straight back in to the top division after being relegated last year. The Toffees have had a mixed start to the season, winning just two games so far after struggling in front of goal, and losing to second-placed Reading last time out.

Captain Hinnigan is still positive and is pleased with how her team has adapted to their new league. However the midfielder is conscious her side must notch a few more wins before the World Cup to keep in the promotion race.

“We know how important it is to try and win as many games as possible before the international break,” Hinnigan told the club’s official site. “We need to get to the top of the league, that’s where we want to be and we know it’s going to be extremely tight at the end of the season, so we’ll need all the points we can get.

“The fact that there’s two teams going up from the division at the end of the year doesn’t mean we can take any risks, because that can be dangerous, but it does mean we need to compete in every game and Yeovil is a great test.

“I’ve been quite pleased with how I’ve started the season, but I can’t rest on my laurels and neither can the team.”
