London Bees embark on their fourth consecutive away trip on Sunday, as they travel to Sutton Coldfield to take on Aston Villa in the WSL 2.
The Midlands side took all six points from their games with Sunday’s visitors last season, and will be hoping to emerge victorious once more, building on their emphatic win at Durham last time out.
The claret and blues came away from the North-East as convincing 4-1 winners thanks to a brace each from Beth Merrick and top-scorer Olivia Fergusson.
Villa currently lie 7th as a result of three wins and four losses in their campaign so far, along with a balanced goal tally having scored the same amount of goals as they have conceded.
All nine points for the Lady Villains have come on the road, as they have yet to notch a league win in front of their home fans.
In contrast, London Bees – who are the only team in the WSL 2 yet to win – are rooted to the bottom of the table and boast the worst goal scoring tally in the league as well as the worst defensive record.
The Londoner’s slipped to their fourth defeat in a row last weekend losing 2-1 at Oxford, despite nearly grabbing a late equaliser, only to be cruelly denied by the crossbar.
Manager Julian Broomes’ took heart from his side’s performance, but acknowledged that he was left frustrated by missed opportunities:
“I thought that we were unlucky to come away without any points. It was very disappointing to see them slip away when we dominated the game for long periods from the first kick-off. Silly mistakes and a lack of judgement have cost us for the two goals so we are bitterly disappointed with the result.
“I was pleased with some of the individual performances – I thought that the back four did really well and in some areas of midfield we started to look like we could dominate – but it has to be collective and until we learn to do it as a whole we won’t get the results that we deserve.”
Broome’s then said of this weekend’s fixture with Villa:
“We will keep pressing on and go up to Villa and I think that we will put on a good performance. The performances are only getting better, they are not getting worse – so it is just a case of finding another one of those performances and using it to dig out a win against one of those teams around us. “
