Yeovil Town go into Sunday’s match at Watford 6 points behind the top two in the WSL 2, with a game in hand.
Meanwhile the hosts have managed just one win so far this season and find themselves 2nd from bottom after 7 matches.
However the Hornets will be encouraged by last season’s performances against Yeovil when the sides drew 1-1 at Berkhamsted before Watford took all three points back from Somerset.
Yeovil have proved to be much more consistent this campaign however, and are unbeaten in their last five league matches – winning four.
Yeovil’s only defeats this year came in their first two matches of the season, against the current league leaders Reading and Doncaster Rovers Belles.
But a win this weekend would take the Lady Glovers within 3 points of those sides as they firmly fix their sights on a promotion spot.
Following a very poor start to the year, Watford have begun to improve and earned an impressive 1-0 win away at Aston Villa two weeks ago.
Most recently, the Golden Girls were unlucky to lose 3-2 to a strong Millwall side, during which Anneka Nuttall was sent off. The striker will now miss Sunday’s clash through suspension.
Watford boss John Salomon spoke of his delight at the Hornets’ recent displays, saying: “Things are really starting to come together and we’re confident that we can continue to build on performances from recent weeks.
“We know that we’ve got a young squad but they are young players with a hunger and desire to be better and successful at this level.”
Meanwhile Yeovil’s Helen Bleazard believes the match will prove to be a test of their promotion credentials. “We can’t slip up in this game because all the good wins we have managed to pick up in the last few months will become irrelevant,” she told the club’s official site.
“The game against Watford is a good opportunity to keep the run going for us, but we cannot approach it with any complacency.”
