Doncaster travel to Yeovil in battle for second place

Doncaster Rovers Belles travel to Yeovil Town on Sunday hoping to return to the top of the table, in the final game before the mid-season break.

The Belles currently sit in second place, trailing Reading by goal difference in the WSL 2. A recent victory over Durham ensured they remain firm favourites to earn promotion, but face a tricky test to the Glovers – who remain the only team to beat the current league leaders this campaign.

A number of new players for the hosts have seen Jamie Sherwood’s side impress, trailing Doncaster by just three points in third place after the additions of Bristol Academy duo Corinne Yorston and Annie Heatherson who have already scored 10 goals between them this season.

The two sides have already met once this campaign with Doncaster running out 2-1 winners. The defeat was Yeovil’s second of the season, after losing to Reading on the opening day, but after getting their revenge against the Royals in the reverse fixture, Sherwood’s side will be looking to do the same this weekend against the Belles.

To add to the tension of the fixture, both managers should have full squads for selection, Glenn Harris’ Doncaster lacking any injury concerns, while Yorston is expected to return for the hosts after missing the 4-2 victory against Watford last week.

Nonetheless, Harris isn’t taking the fixture lightly, and is aware of the threat posed by the Glovers.”It’ll be a tough trip,” he told the FA WSL website.

“We played them earlier in the season and I’ve said consistently since then that they’re probably the best team we’ve faced so far this season. They’re a strong team, and that’s physically, technically and in terms of organisation, so they’ll definitely be a tough test for us.”

A dominant victory could see Yeovil leapfrog Doncaster into second place, with a goal difference four less than their opponents heading into the clash.
