Watford Ladies are currently bottom of the WSL 2 having only won one game from eight. This Sunday they travel to fourth-placed Everton Ladies who, after being relegated from WSL 1 last season, are seven points adrift of the league leaders and those all important promotion spots.
The Toffees come into the game following a dramatic 3-2 win over Oxford United last time out, where a stoppage time penalty was the difference for the Merseyside outfit. Despite scoring three last time out, the Blues will need to improve their prowess in front of goal if they want to move up the league standings as, so far this season, they have only found the back of the net 13 times compared to Reading and Doncaster who have over 20 goals each.
Watford on the other hand have had no problem in recent weeks in front of goal, something that pleases manager John Salomon.
“We’ve worked a lot on trying to score goals as it was an issue for us in the first part of the season,”he told the club’s official site. “We’ve scored five in our last three, that’s a real positive, considering we only managed one in the first four.
“We have to keep creating those goal scoring opportunities and asking questions in front of goal. Defensively, we have to make sure we keep our focus, our discipline and organisation.
“If we do that, we’ll give ourselves a chance to be successful this weekend.”
With the threat of relegation looming for Watford going in to the mid-season break, the Hornets will be desperate for the three points on Sunday to lift them above fellow league strugglers London Bees.
However the visitors will have to improve on their performance last month, when in the reverse fixture, Everton ran out comfortable 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Millie Turner, Simone Magill and Lucy Whipp.
