Jackie Groenen has opted for a move away from the FA WSL, leaving Chelsea Ladies to join Champions League winners Frankfurt.
The midfielder has spent the last 14 months with the London outfit, and despite their recent success, has chosen to make the move to Germany.
Chelsea, managed by Emma Hayes, currently sit top of the FA WSL 1 while also preparing for a FA Cup final at Wembley in August. Nonetheless, Groenen has signed a two-year deal with the seven-time Bundesliga winners – managed by Englishman Colin Bell.
The 20-year-old opted to represent Belgium at international level, although initiated her club career in Germany, featuring for Essen-Schönebeck and Duisburg prior to her switch to Wheatsheaf Park.
“I am immensely happy to have signed for Frankfurt,” Groenen said on social media. “It has been a goal (of mine) since the day I started playing football.”
Groenen has featured nine times for the Blues throughout the 2015 campaign, making two starts and six appearances off the bench. She previously featured 55 times in the German league, scoring a respectable 14 goals.
Frankfurt’s 2015 Bundesliga campaign will commence in late August.
