Andy Spence has announced he is to step down from his role as manager at WSL 2 side Everton Ladies.
Having been involved with the club since 2004, in which he took a position as assistant manager, Spence was given the number one job in November 2012. After a mixed spell with the club, he will now focus on his role as Technical Director at the Girls Centre of Excellence.
Spence saw the club lift the FA Women’s Cup in 2010, while also clinching the League Cup in 2008. Under the guidance of Mo Morley, Everton also finished as runners-up in the Women’s Premier League for five successive seasons.
“Reaching this decision has been incredibly difficult given my 11-year association with Everton Ladies but, ultimately, is driven by my desire to see the club be successful,” Spence said.
“I have been fortunate to have worked with many fantastic players and staff who have helped create some amazing moments that I will always be very proud to say I was a part of – the various Cup runs and victories, playing in Europe, and seeing so many of the young players develop.
“The current group of players have a great deal of talent and potential. I would like to thank them for all their efforts so far this season and wish them and my successor the very best for the rest of the season.”
The Toffees currently sit in fourth place in the second tier after being relegated last season, and trail leaders Reading by seven points. After four victories, three draws and two defeats, Everton will now be led by coach Nicola Anderson on an interim basis.
