Sunday’s WSL 2 match reports

Watford Ladies 1-3 Durham Women

Defender Sarah Wilson scored twice as Durham Women won 3-1 in front of a record crowd at Berkhamsted. Watford took the lead within the opening 60 seconds after a mistake from Wilson allowed Anneka Nuttall to open the scoring. However she quickly corrected her mistake by levelling the match when she headed home, to mark her first competitive goal. Durham took the lead after a cutback from Kim Farrow was snapped up by Courtney Corrie to convert into an empty net. Durham wrapped up the game and all three points when Wilson again got her name on the scoresheet converting Corrie’s well timed cross into the top corner.

London Bees 2-1 Aston Villa Ladies

London Bees bagged their second win of the season in front of a record crowd at the The Hive. The Bees took the lead in front of their home fans when Paige Wakefield’s long ball found Emma Whitter who buried home into the bottom corner past Imogen Riches in the Villa goal. However Ron Mellor’s team weren’t going down without a fight after skipper Sherry McCue’s free-kick was glanced in from Emma Owen just before the half hour mark. 15 minutes into the second half Ashleigh Goddard scored the winning goal when she placed a header into the bottom corner from a Katherine Huggins cross.

Oxford United Women 2-5 Doncaster Rovers Belles

Courtney Sweetman-Kirk scored a hat trick as Doncaster Rover Belles netted five times to send them to the top of the FA WSL 2. Katherine Nutman levelled the scoring for Oxford to cancel out Bethany England’s opening goal of the game. Swetman-Kirk put the Belles ahead just before half time before firing home her second goal 15 minutes from time after good play from Sue Smith. The Belles striker completed her hat-trick moments later when she rounded Oxford keeper Demi Lambourne. Later, Nicola Hobbs bundled the ball into her own net to make it five, before Sophie Stamp competed the scoring for the visitors after Kasia Lipka’s initial shot was saved after Stamp chipped in from just outside the penalty area.

Yeovil Town Ladies 1-0 Millwall Lionesses

Natasha Knapman scored the only goal of the game at Huish Park as the Lady Glovers claimed victory to remain third in FA WSL2. Knapman headed in on 21 minutes converting Sarah Wilstshire’s cross. Wiltshire thought she had opened the scoring after reacting quickest to Annie Heatherson’s shot which cannoned of the post but Wiltshire was adjudged to have been in an offside position. Yeovil nearly doubled their lead before half time but both Heatherson and Wiltshire were denied by the woodwork. Fliss Gibbons had an opportunity to level the match for the Lionesses but a late saving tackle from Yeovil skipper Natalie Haigh prevented Gibbons from doing so, as Millwall suffered their fourth straight loss in a row.
