Reading Women 1-1 Aston Villa Ladies
Reading were denied an opportunity to go top of the FA WSL 2 when Villa teenager Katie Wilkinson converted from the penalty spot to earn a point for her side.
The first chance of the game fell to the hosts when Helen Ward’s 20 yard shot went wide after Emma Follis’ lay off. But after just nine minutes their opponents had their ball in the back of the net following a Bethan Merrick header but the midfielder was adjudged to have fouled Reading’s Rebecca Jane in the build up and the goal was ruled out.
Up the other end, Villa keeper Jessica Myers was called in to action, first keeping out Lauren Bruton’s fine strike from outside the area before denying Follis’ effort and the rebound from Laura-May Walkley.
After the half-time break the Royals broke the deadlock as they pushed for a vital win in the promotion race. The game’s stand out performer Follis converted Helen Ward’s cross moments after teammate Lauren Bruton was denied by the bar.
However Villa made sure they were leaving with at least a point when Kirsty McGee fouled Wilkinson who stepped up to calmly slot home the penalty and rescue a point for Joe Hunt’s side.
Durham Women 4-1 London Bees
Durham recorded back to back league victories for the first time this season as they beat London Bees 4-1 at New Ferens Park in their first home win since March.
Natalie Gutteridge opened the scoring bagging her first goal for the Wildcats since her move from Sunderland earlier in the month.
Ashleigh Goddard levelled the scores for the Bees with her fourth goal in as many games but Jordan Akinson regained the lead for the hosts before Courtney Corrie fired home to make it 3-1 before half time.
Gutteridge nearly got her second of the game but was denied by the crossbar before Beth Hepple completed the rout for Durham to see them move up to 7th in the table.
Oxford United Women 2-2 Millwall Lionesses
Centre-back Naomi Cole was forced to play in goal as Millwall came from behind to leave Oxford with a point in a thrilling draw on Sunday afternoon.
It took United four minutes to open the scoring when Katie Stanley’s cross was cleared only as far as Helen King whose low drive found the bottom corner. Stanley then set up Ella Franklin-Fraiture who lofted a superb effort over Oxford keeper Sarah Quantrill from 20 yards to double the hosts lead.
Ashlee Hincks’ free-kick was headed home from Grace Fisk just after the hour mark as the Lionesses fought to get back into the game and an injury to Quantrill meant Dan Mlinar’s side were left short in between the sticks.
With nine minutes to go stand in keeper Cole’s long clearance was picked up by Rinsola Babajide who fired Millwall who held on to the final whistle to complete a fine comeback and leave The Armadillo Stadium with a point.
Yeovil Town Ladies 7-1 Watford Ladies
Yeovil put seven past bottom of the table Watford in an emphatic win which began with Corinne Yorston converting from the penalty sport after Sarah Wiltshire was fouled by Nicola Pepper with just seven minutes on the clock.
The Glovers doubled their lead within the opening 20 minutes as Annie Heatherson’s powerful strike was parried by Watford keeper Trippoli Witney to the feet of Helen Bleazard who was there to pick up the pieces and place her strike past the helpless keeper.
Four minutes later Wiltshire met Bleazard’s cross to extend Yeovil’s lead before Ellie Curson curled home a spectacular effort from 25 yards to make it four before half time.
Seven minutes into the second half Yorston got her second goal of the game and Yeovil’s fifth as she volleyed home following some good work from Sammy Quayle down the wing.
Watford substitute Sasha Adamson fired home from close range for a consolation before The Glovers restored their five goal lead within minutes, Heatherson heading home a Curson corner.
With three minutes until full-time substitute Emily Donavan powered a long-range effort past Witney to make it three wins in three in all competitions for third placed Yeovil who now sit just 4 points behind Reading in second.
