County hope to bounce back from Wembley heartache with win over Bristol

After the disappointment of a narrow defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup final at the weekend, Notts County look to bounce back with a home victory against Bristol Academy in the WSL 1 on Wednesday night.

The last time these two sides met County came away 5-2 victors and another win mid-week would see them move to within one point of top spot in the league standings – overtaking the side that broke their hearts at Wembley in the process.

Bristol on the other hand desperately need a result as they remain rock bottom of the table having not won a single league game yet this season.

However the Vixens have managed to record back-to-back victories in the Continental Cup so confidence is as high as it’s ever been and midfielder Caroline Weir is hoping to capitalise on this.

The 20-year-old is also hoping County’s high tempo game at the weekend will cause some tired legs among Rick Passmoor’s side.

She told the FA WSL’s official website, “They had a game on Saturday and we are playing them on Wednesday, so they won’t have too much time for recovery, whereas we’ve had a whole week.

“I’m not sure whether that works in our favour or not, but it is going to be a tough game anyway and we will be prepared for that. Hopefully we can get a result.”

Striker Ellen White however, insists Notts are expecting this mindset from their opponents and will be prepared for it. “Bristol are fighting for their lives, they have got five games to stop themselves going down. They may be banking on the fact that we have just played in a cup final and they will want to use that to their advantage,” she said.

“But we will be professional and up for the game, regardless of the cup final, because we want to finish in the highest possible position in the WSL.

“If results keep going the way they are anything could happen. We will be fighting all the way.”
