Aston Villa Ladies v Durham Women FC
Following the mid-season break, Durham have been in fine form in the WSL 2, scoring seven goals in two games and this weekend they come up against a Villa side that have failed to win in their last four.
Villa’s latest defeat came against West Midlands rivals Birmingham City in the Continental Cup who put 7 past the Lady Villains, while this weekend’s opponents Durham also suffered a heavy loss in the cup to Manchester City of the WSL 1.
Villa boss Ronald Mellor will however be hoping his side can draw inspiration from the last time these two sides met back in May, when they left the North East 4-1 winners thanks to double’s from Beth Merrick and Olivia Fergusson.
A defeat this time around would surely end any hopes of promotion to the WSL 1 for Villa who currently sit in fourth place having played one more game then the three teams who sit above them.
Everton Ladies v Millwall Lionesses
Millwall travel to the Select Security Stadium on the back of four straight defeats and a draw, but will be full of positives after securing a point against Oxford United Women last time out after being two goals down.
Meanwhile Everton return to league action for the first time in over two months having last played in the WSL 2 back in May, when they scored six goals in two games. The Toffees currently sit in 5th place in the table but have the third best defensive record behind the top two of Reading and Doncaster Belles.
The last time these two sides met, the game ended 1-1 with Everton rescuing the game with three minutes of normal time left thanks to a strike from Jess King.
London Bees v Yeovil Town Ladies
Yeovil travel to The Hive on the back of a 7-1 win over Watford Ladies last time out while the Bees were on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat.
The visitors are in fine form after only losing just once in their last nine league games while London Bees are propping up the other end of the table having won only two games so far in the entire FA WSL season.
The last time Julian Broomes’ side met The Glovers they suffered a 4-0 defeat with Annie Heatherson bagging a brace.
A win for the visitors once more would see them put even more pressure on the top two sides in the WSL 2 in their push for promotion. However victory for the Bees could be influential in the relegation fight as they look to extend the gap between themselves and bottom club Watford Ladies to seven points.
Oxford United Women v Reading FC Women
A victory for Reading this weekend would see them extend their unbeaten record to eight games, but Oxford will be looking to spoil the party for the promotion favourites as they look to climb in to fourth place with a win.
Both sides drew their previous league game, with United throwing away a two goal lead at home to Millwall Lionesses – something they will not get away with against the Royals who have scored more goals than any other team so far this season.
In the absence of star striker Fran Kirby who recently made the move to the WSL 1, Emma Follis has stepped up to the plate and bagged herself 10 goals in 13 games. Lauren Bruton will also be looking to get on the scoresheet, after getting two against the same opponents in an exciting 2-2 draw back in April.
Reading currently sit in second place two points behind Doncaster Belles and a win will continue to heap the pressure on the leaders with both sides to meet in just under a month’s time.
Watford Ladies v Doncaster Rovers Belles
Its top verses bottom at the Berkhamsted FC this weekend, with Donny Belles hoping to still be sitting pretty at the top of the WSL 2 by the end of Sunday’s games.
Watford have endured a disappointing campaign so far with John Salomon’s side only winning once this season, falling to the bottom of the league behind fellow strugglers London Bees.
The Hornets lost 5-0 at the Keepmoat Stadium when these two sides last month with Sue Smith and Courtney Sweetman-Kirk amongst the goal scorers and Doncaster are still in a rich vein of goalscoring form after putting 5 past Oxford last time out whilst their opponents were hammered 7-1 by Yeovil.
