Jill Scott and Karen Bardsley pen new contracts

England international’s Jill Scott and Karen Bardsley have both signed new two year contracts with Manchester City Women.

Both players’ contract’s were due to expire at the end of the current FA WSL season but they have now committed their future to the club until at least 2017.

Both Scott and Bardsley were a part of the bronze-medal-winning England squad during their historic time in Canada at this years’ Women’s World Cup.

Speaking to BBC Sport Bardsley said of her new contract: “I’m honoured and it’s a privilege that they’ve decided they’d like to keep me on.”

“They’re really changing perceptions of women’s football and raising the bar across the board, and this is the starting point.

“You’re only going to get better being at this club. If you come here and you don’t improve then there’s no excuse.”

Scott joined the Blues in 2013 after a seven year spell at Everton Ladies but hopes to remain at her current club even after she’s finished playing.

“Women’s football is definitely going to grow and there’s going to be a lot more girls coming through.

“Eventually, when I stop playing, this is a club where I would like to help develop the young players as well.”

England captain Steph Houghton also recently signed a two-year contract extension for City back in May. The North West side currently sit fourth in the WSL 1 table, three points behind leaders Chelsea with a game in hand.
