Dowie eyeing England recall

Liverpool Ladies striker Natasha Dowie is hoping for an England recall for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

Mark Sampson’s side play their first games against Estonia and Bosnia-Hercegovina since their record breaking World Cup campaign.

Dowie has 12 England caps to her name and has scored five times for the Lionesses.

However the 27-year-old was overlooked by Mark Sampson when he named his World Cup squad.

At the start of the FA WSL 1 season Dowie struggled to find the net after being ever present for the Reds when they won back to back WSL titles.

However since the international break, Dowie has been in fine form scoring eight goals in eight games for the current champions.

“Everyone wants to play for England so it would be silly of me to say no,” Dowie told BBC Sport.

“I feel like I have a lot to prove on the international stage and it would be brilliant to be back involved.”

The striker is yet to have played in a major international tournament for the Lionesses but has been given advice from her former Fulham boss and current England assistant manager Marieanne Spacey.

“I know Marianne very well as she used to manage me at Fulham,” said Dowie.

“Obviously I talk to her and she said I’m playing really well.

“From my performances of late, I’m scoring goals and that’s what they look for. I’ll keep going, working hard and not thinking too far ahead – but I’d love to be back involved, of course.”
