England and Manchester City Women striker Toni Duggan will miss the rest of the 2015 season due to injury.
The in-form 24-year-old picked up an ankle injury when her side beat Liverpool Ladies 2-0 in the Continental Cup recently and was absent at the weekend when City beat title rivals Sunderland 1-0 in the WSL 1.
It has now been confirmed that Duggan – who was called up to Mark Sampson’s England squad to face Estonia in their first European 2017 qualifier this week – will miss City’s final three league games against Liverpool, Bristol Academy and Notts County.
Nick Cushing’s side are aiming to win their first FA WSL title and currently sit second in the table, five points behind leaders Chelsea with a game in hand, but the absence of top goalscorer Duggan will be a huge miss.
The striker will join 23-year-old American international Daphne Corboz on the treatment table as the 23-year-old has also been ruled out for the remainder of the season in another injury blow for the North West outfit.
Duggan was also one of seven strikers in Mark Sampson’s squad to face Estonia and it is currently unknown if the Lionesses manager will call up a replacement.
