City charged for Cup misdemeanor

Manchester City Women have been charged with fielding an ineligible player in their Continental Cup game against Sunderland on the 15th August.

Is alleged the player was not registered with the FA WSL, and therefore the club is in breach of League Cup Rule 5 (Competition Rule 26.5).

The club has until 17 September to respond to the charge.

It is currently unknown who the ineligible player was but goals from Nikita Parris, Steph Houghton and Toni Duggan  provided City with a 3-1 victory over the Black Cats in this now controversial fixture.

As a result of the allegations, City’s Continental Cup quarter final fixture against Arsenal this weekend has been postponed.

Nick Cushing’s side are currently defending the Continental Cup trophy after winning the competition last season.
