Chelsea travel to Liverpool in WSL 1 penultimate weekend

Saturday 26 September

Sunderland vs. Arsenal

Forth placed Sunderland host Arsenal in the penultimate weekend of the WSL 1 as both sides look to secure Champions League football for next season.

Mathematically neither side are out of the title race either going in to this fixture but a defeat for the Black Cats against the Gunners would see that change.

The last time these two sides met Arsenal ran away 4-1 winners but the London club have only managed one league win in their past three outings.

Sunday 27 September

Manchester City vs. Bristol Academy

As Man City look to keep pace with league leaders Chelsea in their quest for a first league title, Bristol Academy look set to be relegated from the division and could have their fate sealed with anything less than a win at the Academy Stadium.

The Vixens have only managed one league victory this season and have a dismal goal difference of -23.

They won’t take any heart from the previous time these two sides met either, as City put three past a helpless Bristol without reply thanks to a Toni Duggan brace.

Notts County vs. Birmingham City

A point for Birmingham on their travels this weekend would see them confirm their WSL 1 status for next season as they sit dangerously close to the relegation zone.

But the Blues will be full of confidence having recently beaten title favourites Chelsea in the Continental Cup and extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to six games.

Notts County will be looking to finish their season on a high with two victories from two following a disappointing campaign and what looks to be a mid-table finish for the FA Cup finalists.

FEATURED GAME*

Liverpool vs. Chelsea

League front-runners Chelsea travel to last season’s champions Liverpool knowing a win will bring them ever closer to the coveted WSL 1 trophy.

The Londoners go in to the fixture two points ahead of second-placed Manchester City with only a final day showdown at home against Sunderland to go after this weekend.

Emma Hayes’ side have won an impressive 8 out of 12 games so far this season scoring 22 goals in the process.

Liverpool on the other hand have had a poor campaign, losing a whopping 7 games, and currently sit 13 points behind their opponents who they snatched the title from on the final day of the season last year.
