Player Profile

Player: Ji So-Yun

Club: Chelsea FC

Having signed for The Blues in January 2014, Seoul born Ji So-Yun has enjoyed nothing but individual and team success. The South Korean midfielder won Players Player of the Year in her debut English season as she helped her side to an agonisingly close second place, losing out on the last day of the season to Liverpool. So-Yun also managed to capture the PFA Women’s Players Player of the Year and a spot in the PFA WSL Team of the Year in April 2015.

Ji So-Yun is undoubtedly a big game player, having scored inthe 4-0 win against Sunderland to clinch the WSL title and providing the only goal of the game in the 1-0 victory over Notts County in the Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley. The tricky playmaker has an eye for goal and a 6th sense of where her attacking teammates will be. Her ability to create moments of magic from nothing and provide match winning chances are what helped shoot Chelsea to the top of the women’s game in England. Being only 25 years old Ji So-Yun definitely still has her best years way ahead of her. Her linkup play with Fran Kirby and Eni Aluko will be crucial if Emma Hayes’s team are to build on the success of last season and make a real push in the Women’s Champions League.
