SSE Women’s FA Cup Round-Up

Holders Chelsea are through to the quarter final of the SSE Women’s FA Cup after a four goal rout of Doncaster Rovers Belles. Jess Sigsworth put the host in front at the Keepmoat Stadium, but an own goal from skipper Leandra Little and a second half goal from Karen Carney gave the visitors the lead. Ji So-Yun and Eni Aluko rounded off the emphatic victory.

Last year’s runners-up Notts County are also in the next round, as two Rachel Williams strikes and a goal from Ellen White helped them overcome Durham 3-1, whilst Brooke Chaplen’s double gave Sunderland a 2-0 win at Yeovil.

Manchester City will join last year’s finalists in the draw after a 2-0 win against Liverpool in Widnes. A stunning goal from Georgia Stanway coupled with Nikita Parris’ strike put the visitors through.

Arsenal’s ladies needed penalties to Birmingham out the cup, after the two sides were locked at 1-1 after extra time. Danielle Carter equalised for the Gunners after Freda Ayisi gave the Blues the lead. England star Jordan Nobbs slotted home the winning penalty.

Hannah George’s second half header was enough for Aston Villa to beat Everton, and Reading beat Millwall Lionesses 2-0 at home.

Sporting Club Albion were on the right side of a seven-goal thriller away at Brighton. The visitors survived a scare from the Seagulls and will be the lowest ranked side left in the quarter final draw. Samantha Conroy, Summer Holmes and Abigail Cottam put the West Midlands side 3-0 up, but Lisa Fulgence, Sophie Perry and Charley Boswell levelled the tie. Conroy’s second made it 4-3 with a header.
