Chelsea FC Women make a turning point: Their WSL home games for 2026/27 fixtures will be played at Stamford Bridge

Stamford Bridge is the new home of Chelsea as the club announces they will play all of their Women’s Super League (WSL) home games there from 2026/27 next season.

A nine-year stay at Kingsmeadow – a Kingston upon Thames ground that has a capacity of 4,850, including 2,265 seats has come to end. As at today April 22, 2026, it was announced that Chelsea Women will make Stamford Bridge their permanent home for all Women’s Super League matches starting from the 2026/27 season, ending a nine-year tenure at Kingsmeadow. However, they had their final game at Kingsmeadow, in which the team won a 2-1 Women’s FA Cup quarter-final win against Tottenham Hotspur on April 6, 2026.

Chelsea Women background so far

Chelsea FC Women remain one of the most successful and ambitious clubs in English women’s football. Based at Kingsmeadow in Kingston upon Thames (with an increasing number of matches now hosted at Stamford Bridge), the team competes in the Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL), FA Cup, League Cup, and UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Chelsea FC Women have transformed from a modest outfit into one of the most successful teams in English and European women’s football over the past decade. Founded in 1992 as Chelsea Ladies, the team spent their early years in the lower tiers of the English women’s game.

Their first notable success came in the 1993–94 season when they won the Greater London Regional League Division 3. Progress was steady but slow until a major turning point in the mid-2010s. The club’s golden era began in earnest in 2015 under the guidance of manager Emma Hayes.

That year, Chelsea claimed their first major trophy, the Women’s FA Cup, and followed it up by winning their maiden Women’s Super League (WSL) title in the same season. This double marked the start of sustained excellence.

Chelsea FC Women Achievements

Domestic Dominance: Chelsea hold the record for the most Women’s Super League titles with 8 wins: 2015, 2017–18, 2019–20, 2020–21, 2021–22, 2022–23, 2023–24, and 2024–25. They also won the short-lived WSL Spring Series in 2017.

In cup competitions, they have lifted the Women’s FA Cup six times (2015, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2025) and the Women’s League Cup four times (2020, 2021, 2025, 2026). They also secured the Women’s Community Shield in 2020.

The 2024–25 season stood out as historic: under new head coach Sonia Bompastor, Chelsea completed a domestic treble (WSL, FA Cup, and League Cup), going unbeaten in the league and setting multiple records, including becoming the first team to achieve two “Invincible” WSL seasons.

As of the 2025–26 campaign, Chelsea sit second in the WSL and have already added the 2026 Women’s League Cup to their cabinet, bringing their League Cup tally to four.

European Campaigns: Their domestic success has been prolific, European glory has proven more elusive. Chelsea have reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League multiple times and were runners-up in the 2020–21 final. They remain a consistent force on the continent, regularly competing at the highest level.

What to expect at Stambridge for 2026/2027 season

The permanent move to Stamford Bridge will mark a new era for Chelsea’s women as they experience a period of transition. Following an unbeaten domestic treble in Bompastor’s debut 2024-25 campaign, the Blues have fallen behind some of their rivals this season.

  • Bigger crowds and atmosphere: Moving to Stamford Bridge allows for much larger attendances, helping to boost visibility, revenue, and the overall matchday experience.
  • Alignment with the men’s team: It brings the women’s first team closer to the main club setup at the famous stadium.
  • Kingsmeadow’s future: The smaller ground will continue to host academy and development games, with no plans to sell it at present.
