Recent Form: Liverpool and Arsenal Women

Liverpool Women are currently in a bad run of games. They lost out in the final minutes of extra time in their FA Cup clash against Brighton, failing to book their spot at Wembley. They also lost both of their previous matches 1-0 against WSL Champions, Manchester City and West Ham.

Arsenal Women have been doing alright. They’ve won both of their last matches, 1-0 against Everton and 3-0 against Aston Villa. But they failed to get the win at the Broadfield Stadium when playing Brighton and Hove Albion, walking away from the match with only a point.

Ones to Watch: Liverpool and Arsenal Women

One to watch from Liverpool would be Beata Olsson. Her biggest asset is her positioning, lethal at playing on the shoulder of the last defender and timing her runs into the box to finish off service from Liverpool’s wing-backs. Olsson provides efficiency – give her a clear half-chance in the penalty area, and she usually buries it.

One to watch from Arsenal would be Stina Blackstenius. She excels at making runs both in front of and behind the defensive backline, using her speed to chase loose balls and exploit channels. She has also built a massive reputation as a big-game player who delivers at crucial moments, scoring in the 2023 and 2024 League Cup finals and Women’s Champions League Final. She also renewed her contract last month and will be staying with the Gunners until 2028.

Injuries and Suspension

Kyra Cooney Cross will miss this last match of the season. She is in Australia to spend time with her family, after her Mothers Cancer Diagnosis.

Martha Thomas will miss out on this fixture due to a foot injury. Known as a tireless worker, she offers a decent level of aggression and high-intensity pressing from the front, helping to disrupt the opposition’s build-up play. Sam Kerr also wont featured as she sustained a lower back injury. She is highly comfortable on the ball, bringing composure, sharp passing, and excellent structural reading.

Marie Hobinger will be out long-term with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Operating either as a central midfielder or further forward, she provides the creative spark Liverpool often relies on, capable of breaking defensive lines with her passing or driving forward to test the goalkeeper herself.

Managers Thoughts

Liverpool Manager, Gareth Taylor Spoke about hosting Arsenal Women at Anfield, “We want to thank [the fans] when we host Arsenal in our final game at Anfield on Saturday. It’s always a fantastic experience for us to play at Anfield and we hope to do our fans proud.”

Arsenal Manager, Renee Sledgers discussed Liverpool as opponents saying, “I’m expecting high-intensity opposition, a high-intensity game… they’re a very good team with good individual qualities, a clear structure, and we’re going to play at Anfield so I think… they’ll want to show everything to their own home fans.”
