An unknown name for probably the vast majority of Sunderland Ladies supporters but since signing in July 2015 Hilde has made an instant impact on Wearside. The Norwegian U23 international was another top addition to Fairweather’s side and has since proven why she has tonnes of potential in the sport. Epitomised by her determined persona and brave performances between the sticks for the Lady Black Cats. With her and fellow shot stopper Rachel Laws both competing for the number one spot more fiercely than ever, it’s fair to say the manager will have a tough decision week after week if both are match fit.
Olsen grew up on the island of Flekkerøya, a special district and the largest island in Kristiansand. A rather remote area but that did not stop Hilde from showing an interest in football from an early age and letting her talent and skill flourish under the guidance of clubs such as Amazon Grimstad FK.
Having previously played for other top Norwegian clubs such as Arna-Bjørnar Fotball and Røa, who both have a successful and prestigious line of top players arising through their ranks, Olsen is surely now one of them, looking to make her mark on the English game.
